Built as a room-in-a-room the grading suite resides in the second floor of the building. Following the recommendations of the DCI (Digital Cinema Initiative) the interior carpeting with black fabric creates cinema atmosphere.
Centerpiece of the grading suite is an Iridas SpeedGrade DI workstation, the only available system today that allows native playback and use (without any file conversion) of almost all Raw-Camera-footage (e.g. Red, SI2k, ARRI D20/D21, Weisscam, Phantom). It also allows mixing all formats and resolutions up to 4k in one timeline.
For so-called conforming of an EDL from tape or playout to tape in all SD or HD resolutions we use a DVS Clipster.
Only a digital projection allows for proper quality control and the most comfortable grading. We use a full HD (1920x1080) projector with very high contrast.
But we can easily switch over to a calibrated TV viewing environment using a Sony class A CRT monitor for conformity check or a trim pass for TV and DVD deliverables.
